Raleigh Homes and Living In Wake County, North Carolina
Wake County Relocation
Here's information on Wake County as your destination and Raleigh homes that you'll find. Wake County is the second most populous county in North Carolina. Formed in 1771, it was named for Margaret Wake, wife of Gov. William Tryon, one of the first provincial governors of North Carolina.
Raleigh, the county seat, is also the capital of North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, its population was 276,093, and it is hailed as one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. Raleigh offers a wealth of opportunities for higher education: North Carolina State University, Meredith College, Peace College, Shaw University and Wake Technical Community College, among others. Raleigh is also home to the North Carolina Museum of Art, the North Carolina History Museum, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the North Carolina Museum of History. Top-notch healthcare facilities, a mild climate, and a variety of cultural and entertainment offerings make the city an especially attractive home for young professionals, growing families and retirees. Shoppers will find an abundance of stores, boutiques, malls and specialty shops, and Raleigh boasts a wide range of restaurant options, ranging from family fare and down-home cooking to ethnic foods and haute cuisine. Virtually all types of housing is available, including urban living in Raleigh’s resurgent downtown area as well as a wide array of new and historic neighborhoods and planned developments such as Wakefield, Briar Creek and North Hills. Raleigh is also home to the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, the 2006 Stanley Cup Champions.
Cary, the second-largest town in Wake County and the fifth-largest center in North Carolina, has sought to carefully manage its growth and development over the past decade. It even chose to keep the “town” designation in spite of its population of around 100,000. Offering a range of living options, Cary is especially popular with people who work in the Research Triangle Park.
The county is also home to smaller communities such as Apex, Wake Forest, Morrisville, Zebulon, Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina and other towns offering a mix of the rural, suburban and urban. Among the largest counties in the state, Wake County is a place where high-tech and homegrown sit side by side.
